Gardens We've Designed
Each of these gardens have been designed by Barbara Schuler and were installed by Custom Gardens, Inc.

Evans Residence What was once a non-descript, boring area off of a patio became a charming focal point with the addition of a fence, interlock pavers, a fountain and low maintenance plants.

Hipple Residence A formal entrance with a large portico is framed with layered plantings which bring the scale of the house into balance with the landscape.

Howell Residence A dangerous, unusable area was transformed to provide safe and attractive access to the rear of the property. A decorative stone wall at the top of the new walkway creates a sense of “entrance” into the garden new garden below.

McNamara Residence Barbara’s landscape design for this residence in Williamsburg received a First Place Award in a state wide landscape competition. The landscape has matured beautifully and provides an appropriate anchor for this incredible home on the James River.

Newman Residence Where heavy clay and a significant slope made gardening difficult, stone terraces provided this client with the planting areas they desired.

Schuler Residence A pond without plants is like a garden without flowers… In as little as three seasons, the vegetation around this water garden transformed the pond into a lush, natural oasis.
